I am running for the Piedmont School Board for the following reasons:

1. I am concerned about the safety of our children while they are at school. There are buildings our schools that present an earthquake risk (life-safety) greater than we would like.

2. My area of expertise is EXACTLY that. I am a licensed Civil/Structural Engineer with expertise in the seismic retrofitting of buildings.

3. I am the only candidate running that can truly help figure out what to do about this serious problem.

4. My son Nathan is in the second grade at Havens and my daughter Amelia will enter kindergarten there next year, so I have a long-term interest in the schools here in Piedmont.

5. I am not only interested in seismic safety but also the quality of education in our schools. I am interested in the extent and quality of extra curricular activities that are offered and how they can be improved to enhance our children’s education.

6. I believe that we can strengthen the relationship between the Schools and the City and find more ways integrate and coordinate activities between the two to eliminate duplicative efforts, reduce costs and ensure that all of our public resources are put to their highest and best use.
